How to make your PC faster (Windows)?

With these tips, your Microsoft operating system will get lighter and run better and faster on your computer

It is common for Windows computers to slow down over time. But you do not need to format your computer or swap your HD for an SSD (though it’s recommended) to make your PC faster. See these tips to make your computer running Microsoft’s operating system lighter.

  1. Uninstall programs and antivirus that you do not use

One of the worst things you can do with your computer is to leave several programs that you do not use installed and taking up space. They are probably starting with Windows, active all the time, and consuming RAM or processing power. It’s time to uninstall.

To do this, go into Control Panel (by Windows 10, press the Windows button, type Control Panel and hit Enter). Then look for the Uninstall a program option. Select the programs or applications you do not use and click Uninstall / Change.

In Windows 10, you can also remove some native applications in Settings> Applications. Just click on the app and then Uninstall.

Oh, if your computer has more than one antivirus, it’s good to uninstall it too – or swap it for a faster one. In this post, we show you the antivirus faster and do not hinder the performance of your computer. One of the tips is to keep just one antivirus installed on the machine.

  1. Disable Windows Defender

Another program that can make your computer slow is Windows Defender, Windows standard antivirus. No matter how effective it is, it is the slowest to do virus scanning and disrupts your computer’s performance. See in this post how to disable this protection or disable Windows Defender completely.

  1. Delete photos, videos, and files that you do not use

We also talked about the antivirus post, but keep in mind: the more files (photos, videos, installers, etc.) you have, the longer your antivirus and other programs will take to scan your hard drive. One option is to send content to the cloud like Google Drive or Dropbox. It does not cost to strengthen that it is worth changing your HD by an SSD, since the main reason of a computer being slow is the low speed of accessing the information in the hard disk.

  1. Using CCleaner

One program that helps in cleaning Windows is CCleaner. It examines unused items from the registry, clears the recycle bin, browsing history (if you choose), and various other items that help clean up the debris from your computer. Maintain frequent maintenance using the utility on your machine.

  1. Remove programs from Windows startup

sso not only helps your computer boot up faster, but also makes fewer programs active while you’re using your PC, which makes it lighter. To do this, right-click the Taskbar and go to Task Manager. Then, open the Initialize tab.

In earlier versions of Windows, hit the start button, type msconfig, and then press Enter. On the Programs Startup tab, remove programs that you do not want to start together with Windows.

  1. Limit Background Applications

In Windows 10, you can also limit applications that may be in the background, also saving RAM and processing power of your computer. To do this, go to Settings> Privacy> Apps in the background.

  1. Bonus: format your computer

This last option is not ideal for everyone and also more radical. After all, there is technical knowledge involved and you need to back up your files. However, we did a tutorial here on how to format your Windows 10 and here for Windows 7. Good luck and leave your PC faster with the tips!
